Asking the cards

Will I get pregnant?

Cards of openness

Cards that ask for care

Cards of patience

Maybe you are counting days, maybe you are staring at a test you have not taken yet, maybe you are scrolling past another announcement and smiling too hard. Whatever brought you here, this is a tender question, and you do not have to be calm about it. Tarot cannot tell you whether you are pregnant or whether you will be. It is a way to reflect, and that is all it is.

Before you read

Tarot is reflection, not medical advice or prediction. No card can tell you about your body, your fertility or the result of a test. For anything about fertility, a missed period, a test or your health, please speak to your GP, doctor or midwife. They can give you a real answer.

If the waiting is hard, the cards can help with how you are feeling and what support you need.

How to ask it

"Will I get pregnant?" is a weak question because it asks the cards for a fact they cannot know, and either answer can hurt. A yes sets up hope you cannot rely on, and a no can feel like a verdict. Try questions that stay with you:

  • How am I really feeling about this wait?
  • What do I need from the people around me right now?
  • What would help me feel steadier this month, whatever happens?

These need honesty, not a yes or no, and you can be honest in private.

A three-card spread for it

Pull three cards and place them gently:

  1. How you are feeling. The emotion under the question, which may not be the one you expected.
  2. What you need. Rest, company, information, a break from checking apps.
  3. What would support you. A person, a habit or a conversation, such as booking that appointment.

The three-card spread guide shows how to read the cards as one story. If you would like company with it, Melissa can read this spread for you.

Cards of openness

These cards speak of growth, welcome and beginnings. They are not a forecast of pregnancy. They reflect being open to what comes next. For why tarot is not a strict yes or no, see yes or no tarot.

The Empress sits on cushions in a lush field of wheat, a crown of stars on her head. She is nurture and abundance, and she often asks whether you are being as gentle with yourself as you would be with a friend.

Ace of Cups shows a hand offering an overflowing cup with a dove above. It is feeling made welcome. In this reading it is about letting yourself hope, safely.

Ace of Pentacles is a hand holding a coin over a garden gate. It is a seed, a practical beginning. It might ask what steady, concrete step feels right, such as a check-up or a conversation.

Cards that ask for care

These do not mean bad news. They say this is a lot to carry, and you deserve softness.

Four of Swords has a knight resting on a tomb in a quiet church. You need rest, not more effort or more research at 2am.

Ten of Wands shows someone struggling under ten heavy staves. You may be putting too much on yourself, so ask for help with some of it.

Five of Cups is a cloaked figure looking at three spilled cups, with two upright behind. Disappointment and grief are allowed here. If it is heavy, tell someone you trust.

Cards of patience

The High Priestess sits between two pillars with a scroll. Some things are not yet known, and not yet yours to know. Trust your body and ask a professional.

The Hanged Man hangs calmly upside down, halo glowing. It asks you to pause and change your angle on the waiting.

Seven of Pentacles shows a gardener leaning on his hoe, looking at what he has planted. Time is part of it. You cannot hurry it by checking every day.

What to do with the answer

Treat whatever you drew as a note about how you feel, not about what is coming. If an openness card made you tearful or hopeful, notice that. If a care card landed, take it as a sign to be kinder to yourself this week. And if you are worried about your health, your cycle or timing, ring your GP or doctor, or speak to a midwife.

Frequently asked questions

Can tarot tell me if I am pregnant?

No. Tarot cannot tell you whether you are pregnant, and it cannot predict whether you will be. For a test, symptoms or any worries about your health, speak to your GP, doctor or midwife.

Why do I keep pulling the Empress?

The Empress is a card of nurture and growth, so she shows up when the subject feels close to home. It is a comment on how you are caring for yourself, not a prediction.

What if I pull a card that scares me?

Take a breath and look at the picture again. Almost no card means what it first seems to, and none of them can see your health. Tell someone you trust how you feel, and let a professional answer anything medical.
